Genesis 1:1: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Psalm 145:9-10: The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made. All Your works praise You, Lord; Your faithful people extol You.
John 1:3-4: Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
Romans 1:18-20: The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–His eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
Colossians 1:15-17: The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.
Hebrews 1:2: but in these last days, He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things and through whom He made the universe.
Who God is is made plain through His creation. As with any artist, their work is a reflection of them. Their heart and soul goes into their work. They work on their art piece until they are satisfied. And their work of art, once finished, will undeniably bear the characteristics of its creator.
So it is with God. Creation can’t help but to testify of God’s awesome qualities–because everything was created for Jesus (the second person of the Trinity) and through Jesus. Nothing created can pass through the hands of the Creator without His fingerprints getting all over it (Genesis 1:26).
In God’s creation, aspects of His personality are quite clearly seen:
∙His provision.
∙Hs compassion.
∙His love.
God’s Provision
Before Adam was created, God had created vegetation, animals, water, and the light in the sky to nourish those things. So before Adam came to be, his sustenance had already been provided for (Genesis 1:9-25). Adam didn’t come upon earth and have to worry about how he was going to eat/survive. God already took care of that! The trees that provide oxygen for humans to breathe had already been on earth in abundance. Like an artist preps his materials and envisions the finished product before starting, so did God.
God’s Compassion
God’s compassion is plainly evident. Compassion is defined as a deep sympathy/sorrow for someone who is “stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.” This compassion was more than manifested when God sent His Son Jesus (who willingly came) to die for us so that we may be reconciled back to Him. The same Jesus for and through whom all things were created , came to die for a creation that became so separated from Him (because of sin) that it didn’t recognize Him while He was here in the flesh (John 1:10). But He saw our need (our immense need) and more than met it on the cross. Not only did He make His creation, He sacrificed His life for His creation. He meets our need so we don’t have to suffer. No only did He desire to alleviate our suffering, He fully did.
God’s Love
One thing that blows my mind is how active God is in His creation. He didn’t just make everything and then step back and leave everything to happen to chance. Every day, His hand is working in His creation: spinning the earth on its axis, shining the sun, illuminating the night, watering the earth, and growing crops. These things can’t happen without His action. And most amazingly, every moment of every day, He’s walking with us, talking to us, living in us–His children. He knew from the very beginning that we would be in need of a Savior. As it says in John 3:16-17: For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. The very same world that was created through Him has the chance to be saved through Him, all because He loves us. He knew how far astray we would be, but His love would not leave us there.
Just as God so wonderfully created the earth and the sky, so wonderfully He created you and me–and in His image. We are living, breathing, walking, and talking works of art created by the God of the universe. It is His desire for everyone to be reconciled to Him and for no one to perish (2 Peter 3:9). He wants all of us to come to know Him and to have a right relationship with Him and He makes it easier to do so by making Himself so accessible to us through what He has created.
